Reconstruction: From Black Progress to Black Struggle

In a new PBS series premiering tonight, Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. explores the Reconstruction era, in which African Americans find their way after the Civil War. The four- hour documentary, RECONSTRUCTION: AMERICA AFTER THE CIVIL WAR takes us through the social, economic and political gains of Blacks after Emancipation in 1865 to the establishment of Jim Crow segregation as the law of the land launching resistance groups such as the NAACP.
